#FollowFriday: 10 Hotels Who Get Twitter
by Kent Lewis on August 14, 2009Follow FridayWelcome to our second installment of #FollowFriday, where we highlight businesses within specific industries who understand and use Twitter effectively. As you can see from the headline, and list of Twitterers, we’re showcasing some of the top tweeting hotels. There are actually many hotels beginning to do a great job, but the following folks have shaken off all of the cobwebs and are now running at full speed.
Boutique:
@RSHotel: Their Tweeters (@bsimi & @adwal) are very active and engage their followers really well. They’ve even thought about brand management by capturing @RogerSmithHotel, and redirecting folks to their main Twitter account. Well done.
@PersonalityHtls: Updated by their self-proclaimed Marketing Diva, the account interacts with guests/followers and provides a more personal side, which helps followers connect to the brand.
@JDVHotels: Use Twitter Tuesdays (and Facebook Fridays) to push deals to followers (and fans).
@Hotel_Max: Consistently engages with customers (i.e. song of the day), offers promos/discounts and interacts with other local businesses on Twitter. **Full Disclosure: This is a client of ours**
@HotelBiba: Another boutique hotel using Twitter to share industry news, hotel events and deals.
Global/Chains:
@Four_Seasons: Uses this as a “corporate” account where they aggregate their individual hotel’s tweets, such as @FSPhiladelphia, @FSBoston, etc.
@MarriottIntl: Kudos to Marriott as they have a team who certainly “gets it” when most big brands don’t. They’ve even had a blog since 2007.
@FairmontHotels: The first Canadian to the make the list, congrats. They do a great job of offering prizes/giveaways to engage their current followers and to obtain new ones.
@StarwoodBuzz: Another “corporate” account used to syndicate deals/info regarding their hotels around the world.
@HyattConcierge: Uses this account to focus more on guests and provide concierge/customer service, rather than push deals.
Since it’s Friday, and we’re in a giving mood we’re going to throw in a bonus! It’s best practice to stay on top of industry news too. So here are a couple we like…
@ihospitality: with over 18k followers, insightful posts from a company focused on guest experience measurement in the hospitality industry
@HOTELSmagazine: industry publication with relevant news, links to resources and cool hotel happenings
@cheapflightscom: always great to be in the know when it comes to airline specials and news
There you have it. Your list of ten hotels, and 3 industry-related accounts, doing a fantastic job on Twitter. As I mentioned, this list certainly isn’t all encompassing, so I encourage you to please add your favorites in the comments.
